It's always great to hear something new from you. You have a distinct style, but your technical skills get better with every track.
Here you do an excellent job with the arrangement: the same instruments you typically use, but the levels of each instrument and overall dynamics add a lot to making the song stand alone in your discography. The drums are distorted, but don't overtake the ambient keyboards and the pinging of your guitars. The same story, but told slightly differently, gives off a wholly unique feeling.
That feeling, at least to me, is one of the end of something. My interpretation of the song is of a relationship that just doesn't work anymore. There's no passion in it from either party, nothing left for one to give to the other, and we're caught in the moment where one realizes it, but doesn't want to disrupt the status quo, even if it is one of habitual discontent.
It's interesting to note that, compared to your other songs especially, there's no real release here. The narrator is more or less thinking out loud and isn't really speaking to themselves or to another party in order to address and fix what is wrong. In fact, that is the problem...there is nothing. So how do you fix nothing? The narrator doesn't quite know, so they go along with the routine, even with the knowledge that it's just not working anymore.
I think this is probably one of your best and most mature works thus far, as it is isn't seeking to solve a problem, but simply for us (the listeners) to observe it, as we cannot make the decision for the narrator in the song. The only thing we can do is make note of it and look for a similar situation in our own life, or risk finding ourselves in a similar fate to our narrator.
Well done, and as always, but especially now, I'm extremely excited for what the future brings in regards to your music.
